My Journey (Mo thuras)
I am Shilpa prabhu - mindfulness teacher, somatic therapist, facilitator and an advocate for social justice. My practise is based on belief that emotional healing is possible using mindful attention, awareness and full compassion. I am dedicated to helping individuals and the community at large using the evidence based skills learnt over 2 decades along with the guidance of my intuition.
As a young adult and daughter raised in the countryside of India, I often questioned and challenged what was considered the norm for a girl/woman and risked breaking it, which I have never regretted.
The next phase of my life was one of exploration: living in different countries like Dubai and Canada exposed me to different cultures and the role culture plays in processing emotions and experiencing life events. This also allowed me to explore the whole sea of therapeutic approaches and to develop an understanding of different modalities. Learning about mindfulness and somatic psychotherapy has resonated with me and allowed me to work authentically with individuals, couples and groups.
When I became a mother I became a learner once again. The curiosity, life perspectives and challenges my children presented allowed me to acknowledge how difficult parenting is, yet I have learned if one is willing to let go one can break the cycle of karma.
As a person connected to people in many different roles I am excited to start my journey in psychotherapy, in my new home town of Galway.

The Core Values That Guide My Work
These principles inform every aspect of my therapeutic practice and my interactions with clients.
Compassion
Approaching every client with genuine care, empathy, and understanding at the heart of my work.
Curiosity
Bringing curiosity without assumptions, asking questions to understand your unique experience.
Creativity
Using creative approaches that blend eastern philosophies with western psychology.
Collaboration
Building a therapeutic relationship where we work together as partners in your healing journey.
Cultural Sensitivity
Understanding the influence of your background and belief system related to race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender and accomodate and respect the differences.
Connection
Helping you connect to your core self, inner wisdom, and meaningful relationships with nature.
A Holistic Approach to Mental Health
My therapeutic approach combines mindfulness, somatic psychotherapy, and cultural sensitivity to address your unique needs.
Mindfulness Based
I incorporate mindfulness practices, guided meditation, and breath work to help you develop present-moment awareness and connect with your inner wisdom.
This approach allows you to observe your breath and its rhythm, creating space for healing and self-discovery away from automatic patterns.
Somatic & Body-Centered
Working with trauma in the body through somatic movements, trauma sensitive yoga, and the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP). I'm a certified SSP provider.
These body-based approaches help regulate the nervous system and support healing by arriving in your body and releasing what no longer serves you.
Attachment & Polyvagal Oriented
My approach is grounded in attachment theory and polyvagal theory, understanding how our nervous system responds to safety and connection.
This foundation helps us work with interpersonal relationships, attachment issues, and the effects of early life experiences on current functioning.
Trauma-Informed
All my work is trauma-informed, recognizing how trauma impacts the whole person - mind, body, and spirit. I have specialized training in working with trauma in the body.
This sensitive approach ensures that therapy itself becomes a space of safety and empowerment, not re-traumatization.
Culturally Sensitive
I create a safe space with utmost respect to your background and identity, honoring the role culture plays in your unique journey.
DBT & CBT Informed
With Level 2 training in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and certification in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, I integrate these evidence-based approaches when helpful.
These practical tools support emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and changing unhelpful thought patterns while respecting your whole experience.
Education & Professional Training
Committed to ongoing professional development and maintaining the highest standards of care.
